The purpose of the Local Walk Planning Committee (LWPC) is to plan, organize, and deliver a successful
Walk in their community as part of the National Walk Program. Committees will work in alignment with
the national vision, goals, and guidelines to raise awareness, engage participants, and raise funds in
support of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
Scope of Responsibilities
The LWPC is responsible for:
• Event Planning & Logistics: Help map out parking, set up, and coordinate day-of logistics.
• Volunteer Recruitment & Management: Engaging, organizing, and supporting local volunteers
before, during, and after the event.
• Promotion & Outreach: Supporting national communications and leading local outreach through
community networks, media, and partnerships.
• Fundraising & Sponsorship: Encouraging participant fundraising and securing local sponsorships
in alignment with national guidelines.
• Community Engagement: Ensuring the Walk reflects and engages the local community while
remaining consistent with national branding and messaging.
• Reporting & Evaluation: Sharing event outcomes and feedback with the national office to inform
future planning.
Committee Composition
The LWPC should ideally include 6–10 members with diverse skills, connections, and experience. Roles
may include:
• Chair/Co-Chairs: Lead the committee, coordinate with the national office, and oversee timelines
and accountability.
• Logistics Lead: Manages route, venue, supplies, and event-day operations.
• Volunteer Lead: Supports the recruitment, training, and management of event-day volunteers.
• Sponsorship & Fundraising Lead: Secures local sponsorships, motivates fundraising, and ensures
donor recognition.
• Communications & Outreach Lead: Promotes the Walk locally, liaises with local media, and
amplifies national campaigns.
• Participant Engagement Lead: Builds relationships with teams, survivors, and community groups
to foster participation.
