Niagara College is looking for students living with visible and non-visible disabilities who are interested in sharing their perspectives on topics such as personal strengths, accessibility, and ableism, as they relate to experiences at Niagara College and in everyday life. This will be done through the use of Photovoice, a technique that involves taking photos and writing captions to answer questions centered around a topic.

Your work will then be showcased during two exhibition sessions, with one being held at the Welland campus on March 9th and the other at the DJP campus on March 11th. Both exhibits will start at 1:00pm. In addition, participants will be rewarded with NC Cash and entered into a draw for a chance to win one of 5 $25 Amazon gift cards.

You can be as literal or abstract as you like when taking your photos and writing your captions. Remember, there is no right or wrong way when it comes to participating in photovoice, as the meaning behind these photos and captions will be unique for each individual. Below are some questions to help guide your photo taking and caption writing:
1. What strengths do you bring to NC? What is your disability superpower?
2. What has been most difficult for you as an NC student living with a visible or non-visible disability?
3. What does accessibility mean to you?
4. What does ableism mean to you?
5. Are there any places on campus that you feel more/less comfortable in?
6. What makes you feel empowered and/or supported as a person living with a visible or non-visible disability?
7. What would you want your peers and/or professors at NC to know about your experience as a student living with a visible or non-visible disability?

Drop-in information sessions will be held on February 18th at the DJP campus in room W208 and on February 19th at the Welland Campus in room AH153 if you would like to learn more about Photovoice and how to participate in this activity. On these dates, sessions will run from 12:00 – 12:20pm, 12:30 – 12:50pm, and 1:00 - 1:20pm. Feel free to attend any time block that best suits your schedule!
