The Living Library Event series contributes to the wholistic experience of Niagara College and wider community by offering the lived experiences of equity-deserving communities. The Libraries and Learning Commons --- at times in partnership with Indigenous Education --- create opportunities for open dialogue from individuals with varied backgrounds in a respectful environment. Through the Living Library Event series, we challenge misunderstanding and provide educational opportunities to learn about topics that contribute to creating a vibrant and inclusive society.

Leah Hogan

Niagara College

Leah Hogan is a proud Bear Clan woman from the Oneida Nation of the Thames. She serves as the Director of Indigenous Education at Niagara College on One Dish, One Spoon Territory. An emerging Haudenosaunee scholar and PhD student at OISE, University of Toronto, her research explores relational learning and Indigenous identity restoration through storytelling and land-based education. With over 20 years of experience in the Ontario college system, Leah is dedicated to advancing Indigenous self-determination and creating safer, more inclusive learning spaces for all students.

Maxine Semple

Niagara College

Moderated by Maxine Semple, Director of Cultural and Global Engagement

Maxine Semple, Niagara College’s Director of Cultural and Global Engagement, has dedicated her career to helping students access new experiences and new cultures to become world-ready graduates with through exploring opportunities for learning with cultural humility. A founder of the College’s signature Be World Ready program, Maxine has helped over 2,400 learners broaden their views and knowledge through more than 270 experiences world-wide and within Canada. Maxine’s impact extends to employees and community partners across the globe who also participate in the meaningful learning opportunities that she champions.
