Come join Walker to learn more about the proposed South Landfill Phase 2 project and offer your insights as Walker sets up a pop-up booth at the Niagara College DJP Campus! Walker is a fifth-generation family-owned company that has been operating landfills for over 40 years. South Landfill Phase 1, the current landfill at Walker, receives and manages approximately 80% of the solid, non-hazardous waste from the Niagara Region. It is projected to reach its capacity by 2029 to 2031. Walker is proposing to develop the next phase of the landfill (South Landfill Phase 2) to continue to provide waste management services over a twenty-year period. Any landfill must undergo a rigorous planning and decision-making process called an Environmental Assessment which is regulated by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks. An important part of EA is public consultation where community input is gathered and considered for informed decision-making about the proposed project. Currently, Walker is undertaking public consultation for South Landfill Phase 2 for students and staff of Niagara College. In addition to the pop-up booth, we also invite you to participate in the survey as we gather feedback on the proposed South Landfill Phase 2 using the QR code or at the Registration link below.
